What is a persona?

A persona is a semi-fictional, data-driven representation of an ideal customer or customer group. It is created on the basis of market research, user data and real-life customer observations, and helps companies to better understand their target audience.

In the context of start-ups and marketing, a persona serves to make abstract target audiences more tangible and concrete.

A typical persona includes, amongst other things:

  • demographic data (e.g. age, occupation, income)
  • Behavioural patterns (e.g. purchasing behaviour, use of products)
  • Aims and motivations
  • Needs and challenges („pain points“)
  • Factors influencing the purchase decision
  • preferred communication channels

The purpose of personas is to create as realistic a picture as possible of the customer in order to make better decisions in product development, marketing and sales.

Typical areas of application include:

  • Product design and feature development
  • Marketing campaigns and positioning
  • UX and UI design
  • Content Strategy
  • Sales pitch

Advantages of working with personas:

  • greater focus on customer needs
  • clearer and more consistent communication
  • more efficient product development
  • greater relevance of marketing initiatives
  • enhanced user experience

Personas are particularly valuable for start-ups, as they help to build a deep understanding of the target audience at an early stage, before significant resources are invested in scaling up.

At the same time, it is important that personas do not remain purely hypothetical, but are regularly reviewed and adapted on the basis of real data.

innoWerft helps start-up founders to develop well-researched personas, gain a better understanding of their customers and, on that basis, devise effective product and marketing strategies.
