A fixed profit margin is then added to these costs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The basic idea is simple: all costs incurred are covered, and a defined profit is also made.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The calculation is typically carried out according to the following principle:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Total costs (materials, production, staff, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>\n<ul>\n<li>Mark-up (e.g. profit margin as a percentage)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>= Selling price<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cost-plus pricing is often used because it:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>is easy to understand and put into practice<\/li>\n<li>enables prices to be determined quickly<\/li>\n<li>ensures cost control<\/li>\n<li>Predictability in costing creates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the method also has clear limitations:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Market prices and competition are not taken into account<\/li>\n<li>Customers\u2019 perception of value is not taken into account<\/li>\n<li>Potential for revenue optimisation is not being fully realised<\/li>\n<li>The risk of prices being too high or too low<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For start-ups in particular, cost-plus pricing can be a practical initial approach, especially when there is little market data available.
