It is aimed at innovative and growth-oriented start-ups that require capital but are still at too early a stage or involve too high a level of risk for traditional venture capital investors. The scheme is administered by L-Bank.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The programme is designed to help start-ups further develop their business ideas, build marketable products or services, and lay the groundwork for future funding rounds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Typical purposes of the funding are:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>develop a marketable prototype or a minimum viable product<\/li>\n<li>validate the business model<\/li>\n<li>Attract your first customers<\/li>\n<li>Financing staff and operating costs<\/li>\n<li>purchase technical or operational equipment<\/li>\n<li>Achieve market and funding readiness<\/li>\n<li>prepare for the next round of seed or venture capital funding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Funding is available for the necessary capital expenditure and running costs of the start-up project. These include, for example, business equipment, stock, operating resources and staff costs. The funding requirement is usually between 50,000 and 200,000 euros. Under certain conditions, higher total funding amounts are also possible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State funding is not a traditional, non-repayable grant. If the project is successful, repayment may be required. Under specified conditions, the state may also require the funding to be converted into shares in the company.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What criteria must start-ups meet?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The key requirements include:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Company headquarters or investment location in Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg<\/li>\n<li>growth-oriented business model<\/li>\n<li>above-average level of innovation<\/li>\n<li>Classification as an unlisted micro-enterprise or small enterprise<\/li>\n<li>Legal form as a legal entity under private law<\/li>\n<li>Cooperation with an accredited care partner organisation<\/li>\n<li>Involvement of a suitable co-investor<\/li>\n<li>no substantial funding from external equity investors as yet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the mentoring programme, the start-up continues to develop its business model and works towards achieving market and funding readiness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What is the application process like?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Funding cannot be applied for directly without a supporting partner organisation. The typical process involves:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Contact the partner organisation providing support<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The start-up presents its idea, its team, its business model and its funding requirements.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Check eligibility<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A joint assessment will be carried out to determine whether the company and the project meet the requirements.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Secure a co-investment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A co-investor must contribute a specified proportion of the funding.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Prepare documents<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These include, amongst other things, a pitch deck, financial projections, details of the business model and information on the planned use of funds.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Submit an application<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The start-up completes the application together with its supporting partner organisation. The application is submitted via the L-Bank\u2019s digital application portal.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Decision and payment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following selection and a formal review, L-Bank decides whether to grant the funding and arranges the financing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For start-ups, the programme offers the following benefits in particular:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Access to capital during the high-risk early stages<\/li>\n<li>professional support throughout the company\u2019s development<\/li>\n<li>Support with preparations for further rounds of funding<\/li>\n<li>Access to experienced investors and network partners<\/li>\n<li>more financial runway for product development and market entry<\/li>\n<li>Combining funding, expertise and strategic guidance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">innoWerft is an accredited support partner of Start-up BW Pre-Seed. It guides founders through the funding process free of charge, assists them in preparing their applications and finding co-investors, and even makes co-investments in selected start-ups itself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A common mistake is to view Start-up BW Pre-Seed as a grant in its own right. Founders should carefully examine the repayment and conversion terms, the required proportion of self-financing and the requirements for the company\u2019s future development.
